Greek mountain tea is a naturally grown caffeine-free herbal infusion made from the dried flowers, leaves and stems of the Sideritis plant, which flourishes throughout high elevations in the mountains of Greece. It has a mild pleasant taste, a very rich earthy aroma and it is often served with lemon and/or honey.
According to tradition, Greek mountain tea was a popular after-work drink of mountain farmers and shepherds for its mood-enhancing, relaxing effect.
Greek mountain tea also has expectorant and anticonvulsant and is therefore recommended for colds and stomach problems.
For tea preparation, use about five to ten grams of Greek verbena per liter of water. Let the tea soak for ten minutes. Greek mountain tea tastes very good when honey is sweetened. Cinnamon and lemon are often added in Greece.
